OHSWEKEN, ON, September 17, 2026 – At the request of the Six Nations Police Service (SNPS), the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) assisted with commercial vehicle inspections on vehicles entering the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory on September 14, 2026.
A total of 17 inspections were completed, with nearly 25% of the vehicles placed out of service until identified safety defects were addressed. Defects included:
- A five-axle trailer operating with its trailer airline disconnected, resulting in no trailer brakes
- Brakes exceeding prescribed adjustment limits
- Loose steering fasteners
- A loose pitman arm connection
- An improperly secured heavy vehicle on a trailer
The inspections are part of SNPS’s ongoing efforts to keep local roadways and community members safe by ensuring commercial vehicles travelling on the Territory meet safety requirements and are in proper working condition. The initiative also supports SNPS’s back-to-school traffic safety efforts and responds to community concerns regarding roadway damage caused by heavy commercial traffic.
SNPS thanks the MTO for its assistance in helping identify unsafe vehicles and prevent them from continuing to operate on local roadways until necessary repairs are made.
